Humanity Photo Awards 2013 Call For Entries

 Since 1998, the China Folklore Photographic Association (CFPA) has started the international competition Humanity Photo Awards (HPA), the aim of which is to call upon photographers all over the world to record and preserve the heritage of folk culture.  HPA is supported greatly by the UNESCO.

HPA calls upon responsible photographers who respect life and love to take their cameras, in the form of special photo series:

  • To explore and rescue the endangered folk cultures of worldwide nationalities by means of photography;
  • To profoundly record the changes and evolution of various folk cultures in a genuine and vivid form;
  • To record, spread and share the multicultural achievements of the world to enhance mutual understanding and exchanges of human beings and to promote the world peace and development;
  • To contribute to the World Folklore Photo Museum with world culture records.

Raised Behind Bars

Raised Behind Bars

Five years ago, Reuters photographer Carolina Camps documented the stories found in the maternity wing of a women's prison in Los Hornos, Argentina. The prison not only housed female inmates, it was also home to 63 of their children, who were allowed to live with their mothers inside the jail until they were four years old. Now, half a decade on, Camps tracked down four of the women to see what had become of them and of their young families.

More Adobe CS6 updates

More Adobe CS6 updates revealed along with new Creative Cloud subscription options

Last night, Adobe revealed updates to a couple of its Creative Suite 6 applications -- Photoshop included -- that enabled support for HiDPI, Retina-branded displays as seen in the latest MacBook Pro notebooks from Apple. Today, it turns out that Retina support isn't the only change made in Adobe Photoshop CS6 but it's the only change you're going to receive in the near future unless you're an Adobe Creative Cloud subscriber.

Launched alongside Creative Suite 6 last April, Adobe's Creative Cloud is a subscription service that aims to lower the initial barrier to entry for Creative Suite apps, while simultaneously creating an ongoing revenue stream for Adobe. With Creative Cloud, instead of paying full price for individual Creative Suite apps or app bundles, you opt for a monthly or annual subscription that gives you access to one or all the apps in the suite.
Alongside today's announcements, Adobe has revealed that in just seven months, it has already reached almost a third of a million paying Creative Cloud members. Those 326,000 individuals are part of a total userbase of over a million Creative Cloud accounts, with the remainder being free accounts that are entitled to 2GB of storage space, file syncing, and product trials, but who for whatever reason have not yet opted to pay for full Creative Cloud membership.

Hoping for Rain - Garden of the Gods Colorado

The red of the rocks in Colorado's 'Garden of the Gods' contrasts sharply with the surrounding greens of the foothills, and the skies above, especially when rain in moving in. The 1,300-acre giant rock garden, composed of spectacular red sandstone formations, was sculpted by rain and wind over millions of years.
Legend has it that pioneers who explored the remarkable sandstone formations in the area in 1859 wanted to establish a beer garden here. However, one Rufus Cable objected: "Beer Garden! Why this is a fit place for a Garden of the Gods!"
Fortunately for posterity, Charles Elliott Perkins (head of the Burlington Railroad) bought the area some 20 years later and kept it in its natural state. Upon Perkins's death in 1907, his heirs gave the remarkable area to Colorado Springs on the condition that it be preserved as a park and open to the public. The park was dedicated in 1909 and is now a Registered National Landmark.

Today's recommended Fine Art Prints

Print on Demand (POD) has revolutionized the way that artwork is bought and sold around the world.

Artists including photographers can upload their images to the Internet, set their prices, and instantly sell framed prints, canvas prints, greeting cards, acrylic prints, metal prints, posters, and more to a global audience of art collectors. The POD provider fulfills each order on behalf of the artists - taking care of the printing, framing, matting, packaging, shipping, collecting payments from the buyers, and sending profits to the artists.

When the customer is ready and has purchased his art, POD delivers a museum-quality masterpiece right to his doorstep. Each print is delivered "ready-to-hang" with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

What follows are my personal recommendations. Check them out and enjoy ... and happy shopping.
